Did you recently put up some signs? Are they legal? You might think that your signs are perfectly legal, but did you know that there are some fairly ambiguous regulations and rules when it comes to the use of signs? Before you think of placing an order for a customized sign, it is advisable that you check first with the governing bodies in your area, including the state, county, and city. Of course, you wouldn’t want to send your hard earned money on something that you will just take down before it even gives you a return on your investment. After all, the best signs definitely deserve to be put up for a long time. Listed below are some of the ridiculous sign laws from around the world. Whether or not these signs are really enforced is a completely different story but individuals and businesses in these places might want to think twice before they design a specific sign. No Signs at Swimming Pools Posting signs at swimming pools is technically illegal in Akron, Ohio, and no one knows what brought about such a law. However, making it illegal to put up pool warnings, rules, and if there is a lifeguard on duty is far from being a safe move. Hopefully, this law doesn’t apply to painted on signs, like pool depth indicators. English Only Please In Georgia, signs should be written in English. But with most of the communities thriving with non-English speakers advertising their goods, services, and businesses in a language which suits their target demographic, this law is probably not strictly enforced. No Signs on Public Christmas Trees Putting a sign on Christmas trees in public is considered illegal in Louisiana. You might have to wait until you get home before placing the happy holidays sign on your tree. And if this is not enough, cutting or trimming trees in public is also illegal. Good thing that if you want to cut the tree yourself, most Christmas tree farms are private and not public businesses, so you can cut to your heart’s delight. For Sale Signs Not Allowed It is illegal in Canada to put up a for sale sign in moving vehicles. But, there is no law that governs the placement of for sale sign on parked vehicles. It could make it more difficult to sell your SUV, truck, or car, but Canadian lawmakers probably think that having a sign on a moving vehicle can be distracting for other drivers. It might also be good if they give a second thought to highway signs and billboards as well. Signs of all shapes, sizes, and colors can really be very serious for people, particularly for the lawmakers. It makes perfect sense considering how these are a bold way of making a statement and spelling out anything from something as simple as the price of your goods to your personal political affiliation. But, as far as illegality of signs is concerned, you might want to always stick on the side of caution. Posted by Randy Blakeslee
When it comes to figuring out what type of signage to use for the storefront of your business you need to think long and hard about the type of target audience you are looking to attract to your business. Knowing as much about them will help you to figure out if your business would benefit from having a large-format printed signage. : Using the windows of your business's storefront that face the street can be quite advantageous to the business. However, you might want to use a bit of caution when considering the type of signage you are going to use. The following are four rules of thumb that you should consider using large-format print in your signage: 4 Times You Need Large-Format Prints When advertising special events: Many businesses that happen to have large storefront windows that face the street like to use them to display large signage in the windows in order to bring attention to a special promotion that they are running in the store. This might be associated with an upcoming holiday or very special occasion for the business ie.. the anniversary of the store opening. When your business is located on a very busy street: In some of the more busy downtown areas of major cities businesses that are located at street level will often use large-format signage in order to make it easier for people who are passing by in a hurry. If the lettering and graphics are too small, it may be very difficult for it to be seen and therefore it will likely be overlooked. You often only have a few seconds to grab the attention of the people walking by or driving by your storefront and the easier for it to be seen the more likely they will stop in your business or remember it enough to come back. When the theme of the business or brand requires it: When it comes to advertising of your business no one knows it better than you and you really need to trust your gut when it comes to your brand and whether or not it would benefit from large-format signage in the window. In some cases, the type of business you own almost demands you to use a larger, more bold lettering and graphics when it comes to advertising your business. If you are running a business that sells outdoor equipment or has to do with adventure, you are more likely to attract more foot traffic if you use large, in your face signage. If your target demographic has issues with seeing your signage In the event that your demographic that your business targets are seniors or maybe have sight impairments, you would want to be sure that your signage is able to be seen from the street. Unless your prospective customers can see your signage on the windows of your storefront, you are not likely going to get a number of visitors indoor in order to make sales. Posted by Randy Blakeslee
