Quantum SignCorp team shares some insights into the best practices for wayfinder signage system Select Appropriate Fonts: Readability is one of the most important factors to consider while choosing a font. Choose San Serif fonts like Helvetica, Futura, Open Sans, as they are more readable than serif fonts like the Old English Fonts i.e Engraved Styles. Also don’t use too many font families. Keep things easier on the eyes. Too many font types make things confusing and not easily discernable. A general rule of thumb is not to more than 2 fonts at a time. Color and contrast of the font is also important. Anything in the font that doesn’t provide the right amount of contrast against the background should be immediately discarded during the design process. Stress Proper Placement: To anticipate the user actions and their needs, placement is crucial. Gauging this parameter is a challenging task. You need to survey the site to anticipate what the user will be thinking to make signage placement decisions. Your intuition will tell you where to place what in order to address user’s needs. Your Signage Needs to be Sturdy: A wayfinder singage is usually under open sky Rain, sleet, snow, winds, riding mowers etc. will assail the wayfinder signage every day. Wayfinder needs to be tough and sturdy to stand up to various human and environmental impacts. One-off signage like weeding events and festivals can be exception to this rule. The material choice in wayfinder signage is really important. Right material choice will help you reduce repair cost in the long term. While choosing the material, a good quality metal will do a better job at protecting its surface from scratches. if a cheaper material is used then don't use fine finish surface. Use a textured surface instead It will hide all the scratches and blemishes. Metals and concrete also bolster signs’ ability to withstand more wind pressure and other wear and tear. Don’t skimp: Although wood signboard is the first thing that comes to people mind when thinking about wayfinder sign boards. However, a wooden wayfinder is not a good option for long term use. If the signage is intended for numbers of years then we recommend using aluminum tubes embed in concrete. Whatever wayfinder signage you use, it should fulfill its intended purpose. Don’t go for saving just money, you’re usually better to be safe (or strong!) than sorry.
